The 'Canes are the new Stanley Cup Champions

For all the talk about how tired Carolina was, it was Edmonton that looked comparitively drained as the Hurricanes returned to form for Game 7. Congratulations to both teams for their long runs and to the 'Canes for their first Cup win.

Edmonton was gone for the first two periods then came alive in the third. Pasani is just ridiculous...he nearly had it tied in the third but got backchecked on his chance. Cam Ward is a deserving Conn Smythe winner.

On the disallowed goal in the first: the puck was clearly in the crease and covered by Staios. They ruled he touched it in the air and that triggered the delayed penalty (according to the National Post), but that shouldn't count as possession...and covering it with any part of your arm in the crease shouldn't count as possession either. At the very least, that "possession" triggering the delayed penalty shouldn't override the fact that the puck was in the crease and it should be an automatic penalty shot. I'd like the rules committee to analyze that play and figure out how to tie that loophole up. It's fortunate it didn't change the end result of the game.

I agree Ward should have gotten the MVP trophy, although I was a bit suprised. I thought it would have went to a forward. He did a great job this playoff run and deserved it.

On that call. Penalty shot all the way. That tip off the goalie's pad shouldn't be possesion (if it were tipped by an Edmonton player and into the net that would have been a goal)...and if they say that Staios had possesion of it then it's "possesion in the crease" and would imbrace the penalty shot.

Anyway, it was a great playoff run, thanks for keeping this updated! It was great to read. Anything more on Luongo?

I haven't heard anything more about Luongo but I'm sure we will sometime in the next few days.
