Wings 1, Canucks 5

Ugh. What an ugly game. There's not much I can say specifically about the game because I was switching back to it only when The Matrix went to commercials but I do have things to say in general. The Wings have to stop turning over the puck so much, they need to start showing a modicum of effort in puck pursuits and they have to start playing better defensively. They have to. If they don't, this season will only be long because we won't be able to wait until it's over, not because they'll be going far in the playoffs. Right now, I doubt they'll even make the playoffs. Not if they play like this for too much longer. They look like some expansion team out there, not the veteran, Hall of Fame team that we know they are. I would say there are only three players showing any kind of effort: Yzerman, Zetterberg and Datsyuk. Henrik and Pavel may not be getting a ton of points but they don't take shifts off very often. The Captain has looked as good as he has in years but it's not enough. The rest of the team has to be that good. Once again, Manny Legace was the only reason it wasn't 8-1 or worse last night. The Wings have to stop blaming referring, which is bad for sure but not a legitimate gripe when they aren't trying to play through that, and they have to stop letting the stupid Goalie Situation bother them. It's time for them to be professionals and earn the money they're being given. I keep waiting for them to break out and dominate. It hasn't happened yet and I'm starting to wonder if it will. Am I the only one who's wondering about Dave Lewis and his effectiveness as a coach? It doesn't seem to me like he's doing enough to keep the Wings disciplined. Maybe it's time for someone else. Henrik Zetterberg. When he limped off the ice last night, I almost had a heart attack. I guess he's alright now and that the cheap shot slash from that Canucks player on the back of his legs didn't cause any serious damage. He was out on the next shift but I sure was scared for a couple minutes. We're lucky he wears extra padding on his legs like Tomas Holmstrom does or we might be out our favorite sophomore. The Wings are now an awful 5-6-1-0 overall and 0-4-1-0 in their last 5 games. Sick. I'll probably still watch a lot of the game tonight mainly because I want to actually see when the Wings actually get it together and play like an 8th seed team, at least.
