Wings congratulate Sergei Fedorov, center, on his second goal of the first period against the Islanders.(detnews) The Wings dominated the Islanders last night, beating them 5-2. Sergei had two goals, his first was a breakaway with his trademark 5-hole backhand, the second was a PP slap shot (he'd drawn the penalty). Draper, Schneider (PP), and Luc scored (his was a breakaway too). The Islanders really looked weak and the Wings outplayed them the whole game. DiPietro looked shaky and let in some bad goals. The HDZ line looked great again, creating headaches for the Isles. They got very close to scoring a few times. CuJo looked sharp but the second NYI goal was kind of bad. He thought the puck had gone behind the net so he turned the wrong way and Yashin stuffed it in the open net. The Captain looked really good, probably the strongest he's looked since he came back. He assisted on Schneider's goal. About Jiri: Coach Lewis said after the game that "He [Jiri] probably won't play in the first playoff game" and that he will not play this weekend. He said Fischer isn't quite ready. Next up: @ Columbus tonight at 7. | full recap | box score | play-by-play
